Shippen Manor: Explore Warren History Trail

History Trail

Our back parking and lower driveway will be closed to vehicles and all visitors at this time.
Barricades and cones are set up for our visitors' safety. Please do not bypass barricades to enter closed areas.

Signs will designate the Belvidere Ave. lot for handicap parking, only. (Vehicles must have tags, plates or placards.) All other visitors are asked to park in town and walk over to the Manor.

Shippen Manor will be a participating site and open to visitors on Sunday, November 3, 2024 (10 am to 4 pm).

The museum will have self-guided tours with Civil War displays. Docents will be available to speak with visitors. New brochures about our Civil War history will be available for our visitors!

The Colonial United Methodist Church of Oxford will also be giving tours from 12 pm to 4 pm and selling light fare in their lower level community room. 

 

 


O
riginally a grist mill, the structure was built in 1813 by (David) Morris Robeson, grandson of Jonathan (builder of the furnace), but there may have been an earlier structure on the site. It is positioned next to our historic colonial-era furnace (c. 1741-1884). The church purchased the old mill in 1913. The Valentine Family, who lived at Shippen during the Empire Steel & Iron years (1911-early 1920s), were members of this church.

This is a family-friend, free event. The Friends of Shippen do accept cash donations. All monies collected are used for the museum.
