The mission of the Warren County Bridge Division is to ensure that all County structures are safe to cross and are maintained properly.   The Bridge Division will also reconstruct, widen and rehabilitate structures that are structurally inadequate for current highway loading or functionally obsolete based on alignment or width.

The Warren County Bridge Division is responsible for most culvert and bridge structures over streams or drainage courses on all County and Township Roads.  There are approximately 900 total structures to be maintained with 153 with spans of 20 feet or greater.  The Division is also responsible for all signs, markets and approach railings.

The goals and objectives of the Bridge Division are as follows:

• Obtain the highest level of safety possible on the County bridge system

• Continue to develop and train a highly skilled workforce capable of solving the many varied, technical and difficult bridge problems encountered daily

• Development of methods, procedures and work habits which will provide the maximum safety and efficiency while completing our tasks as quickly as possible.  Inconvenience to the public, schools, local businesses and emergency services are always of utmost concern.

Some of the work tasks we perform include replacing missing bridge signs and markers, clearing bridge openings from storm debris, repairing coping and railing damaged by motor vehicle accidents, painting and welding repairs and repointing work.  Deck repairs and emergency repair work arising from ongoing inspection programs is also performed by Bridges Division staff.

Emergency repairs are a primary function of the Bridges Division.  A large portion of the County's structures are over 50 years old.  Having not been originally designed for current traffic numbers and vehicle weights, the Division is continually assessing conditions and performing ongoing maintenance and repair to aid in the safety of the traveling public.  Storm damage also creates emergency situations by washing out abutment areas on structures not originally designed to be large enough to handle increased flows caused by upstream development.   Vehicle collisions also create a number of additional repairs that, while unanticipated, are addressed swiftly.
